The British government is set to progress with using the entire amount of seized Russia's holdings to bolster the Ukrainian war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a joint statement, the heads of state of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany stated that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to engage in negotiations.

They added that the initiative would be executed in close cooperation with the US.

United Kingdom penalties have frozen more than £25bn of Russia's funds since Russia launched its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. But, up to this point, money allocated to the Ukrainian government using Russia's funds had only been drawn from earnings and returns accrued on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and Germany were in agreement in their desire to push forward toward utilizing the full value of the seized Moscow's national holdings to end the war.

He noted that more restrictions soon would increase the strain on Russia.

This declaration comes after European representatives convened in Copenhagen previously to consider utilizing immobilized Russian holdings for a €140bn loan to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, President Donald Trump urged Group of Seven partners to confiscate or utilize immobilized Russia's assets, according to news outlets.

The value of seized Russia's funds in the European Union is calculated to be nearly €211bn.

Russia executed extensive aerial attacks across the Ukrainian territory on that day, causing power cuts in significant regions of Kyiv, the city, and eight other regions.
