The English Team to Begin Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium
England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they attain the anticipated entry for a competition hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
City’s stadium has not hosted an English men’s match since May 2016, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to welcome the national team for their first match on June 10, 2028.
The English side are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would be held at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the knockouts at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Championship Kickoff and Demonstration
The event was inaugurated at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Senior figures from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were confronted as they arrived the location by approximately 50 activists, who called for Israel to be removed from global football because of the Gaza crisis.
Placards were displayed with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Timeline
The opening game of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will feature the Welsh team if they qualify.
Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract households and help engage a broader range of audiences.
Qualifying Teams
The Irish team are due to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will participate in the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that miss out on Euro 2028 through the standard process.
Locations and Playoffs
Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals held at the national stadium of each host.
The qualifying draw will be held in Belfast, which was removed as a tournament location last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
Tournament Vision
“It will be a competition for the supporters and a celebration of everything we value about the sport – its passion and ability to unite individuals.”
More than three million passes, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be released to fans.
