The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the popular series coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is striving to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Does the showrunner See the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the classics?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
