Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with results so bad.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
