Over 36,000 people have escaped Sudan's Kordofan region eastern sector of Darfur beginning Saturday, according to the UN's immigration body.

The strategic central area between the country's Darfur regions and the capital region has over recent weeks become the latest battleground in the two-year civil war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary forces.

Significant Exodus Statistics

An approximated 36,825 people evacuated from five localities in North Kordofan state between 26 October and 31 October, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The people, mainly traveling by foot, traveled to Tawila, a town western side of El Fasher that is currently housing over 652,000 displaced people.

Increased Forces Deployment

Residents of North Kordofan on Monday reported a heavy surge in both RSF and army concentration across towns and villages throughout the state.

Both military groups are contesting control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan provincial capital and a critical supply and command hub that joins Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have assembled at the Bara front here," commented an RSF member in a recently distributed video statement.

Area Residents Describe Protection Issues

A local inhabitant of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, described that the number of RSF vehicles had grown substantially since the group's seizure of El Fasher.

"We stopped going to our farms, concerned about clashes," the resident explained.

Another inhabitant, who asked to remain unnamed for protection purposes, also indicated that "there has been a significant rise in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the previous fortnight.

World Concerns and Calls

A senior UN official raised the alarm last week about "extensive crimes" and "ethnic-based retaliations" by RSF in Bara.

The official warned of patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF combatants have been charged with mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against certain racial groups.

The church leader on Sunday appealed for an prompt truce and the opening of aid passageways in Sudan, stating that attacks on civilians and obstacles to humanitarian aid "are creating unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's ambassador to Egypt on Sunday charged RSF of committing war crimes in El Fasher and announced that the Sudanese government would not engage with the militia organization.

The diplomat further encouraged the global community to categorize the group as a terrorist organisation.
