Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD issued security footage Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a child.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
