A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
